TRAILS RUCKSACK by dusen dusen

Dozens of shopping sites have popped up over the past year. They have a lot in common — they look pretty, feature flash sales, promise some sort of exclusivity — but Of A Kind‘s tried to take all of those things one step further.

Founders Claire Mazur and Erica Cerula launched it just in time for the holidays, and today they’re kicking off the December homestretch with a printed backpack from Dusen & Dusen. After today, every product sold will be under $100, but they had to squeeze this in somewhere: “We thought it made a great holiday gift (and even know some guys who want it)! So, we wanted to get it out in time, and there are only so many weeks before Christmas….The screen print on this bag is done by hand and the print was custom designed just for us, so it’s a pretty special piece,” Mazur explained.

So how does it work? The founders work with up and coming designers to produce something totally exclusive to the site — sometimes there are just a handful up for grabs, and sometimes there are fifty (but never more than that) which means you’re a) getting a leg up on new designers and b) snagging something very few other people have.

Why a backpack? Designer Ellen van Dusen explained,”I made my own [backpack] in college and have included them in my line since the start, so I can match everything I own to a different one. They’re so much better than purses because they’re way more comfortable, they’re unisex, they can hold a ton of stuff while still looking cool and there’s lots of surface area for prints!”
