THE “ONE OF A KIND SALE” ISN’T KIDDING
The “One of a Kind Show,” a holiday shopping sale that just made its New York debut last year, opens for the second time today, at 7 W 34th Street.
The expo, which travels to L.A., Toronto, and Chicago, has something of a cult following for a simple reason: It offers an abundance of originality, something easily missing in holiday shopping, at steeply discounted prices. For two consecutive weekends in November (12-14; 18-21), shoppers will find stunning, handcrafted work by 200 artisans, designers and fine artists from across the country.
It’s like Etsy, but in person. The artists and jewelers themselves are there to sell their work directly to patrons and discuss their handiwork whether it’s a piece of eclectic jewelry, hand-stitched leather handbags, colorful wallets, unique pottery, or even clothing and shoes.
At yesterday’s press preview we fell for Julia Failey’s thorny rings and bangles, seen above, which sell for an affordable $50 to $100 (they’re Kate Bosworth’s favorites). Meb’s Kitchenwares’ exquisite mugs hand carved from curly maple wood are the perfect hostess gift, and we dare you not to grab one of Raul Frisneda’s 18K gold snake bracelets (another celeb favorite) for yourself.
